Taxes

I started preparing taxes professionally in 1998.

We purchased rental property that year.  I attended the H & R Block tax class to get information on accounting for rentals: income, deductions, what records to keep, and how long to keep them.  I have always filed my own taxes.

H & R Block hired me out of that class.  While with H & R Block, I managed a tax office, and taught basic tax classes, as well as being a tax preparer.

I continued to work for H & R Block in the South Salt Lake Utah District until moving to Idaho in 2005. At that time I started preparing taxes on my own, working from home.

As well as rental properties, I have personal experience with the various phases of trucking and being a small business owner.

Bookkeeping

I believe I have been bookkeeping all my life.  Growing up on a dairy farm west of Heyburn, I started counting nickels at a very young age.  My siblings and I were paid a nickel for each calf we fed.  I kept the ledger to record our wages accrued and paid.

I completed my AAS in Accounting at SLCC in West Valley City Utah with a cumulative GPA of 3.945.  Yes, I thought I'd brag a bit.  While there, I was voted as The Outstanding Student by my instructors.  There is a plaque hanging somewhere on campus with my name on it.

I have held many positions including accounting clerk, bookkeeper, and cashier as well as tax preparer.  Most recently I was employed by at a CPA firm as bookkeeper.  I assisted clients with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll to varying degrees according to their needs.  I was responsible for preparing payroll reports, scheduling payroll deposits, and processing W2s.

I recently joined the QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor program.  After participating in a virtual online conference, which was very interesting, I completed the certification process.
